Roadway/Bridge Maintenance

Bridge Maintenance

This workshop is designed for local government agency personnel responsible for and interested in developing a good bridge maintenance program. Students will learn how to gather data on bridge maintenance needs, treat and repair common bridge problems, and respond to bridge emergencies.

Registration

Mail or fax the registration form or register online no later than one week prior to the workshop. Preregistration allows us to contact you if the course must be postponed due to weather or other factors. A refund of the registration fee, minus a $30 cancellation fee, will be made if cancellation is received five working days prior to the workshop. Who Should Attend

County or city engineers or their technical staff who have responsibility for bridge safety inspections and/or bridge maintenance.

Credit

  • 1.0 Roads Scholar Program required credit
  • To the best of our knowledge, this course/activity meets the continuing education requirements for 6.0 PDHs as outlined in Minnesota Statute 326.107. More information concerning continuing education for professionals is online at www.aelslagid.state.mn.us

Instructors

Bob Kleinschmidt retired from Mn/DOT in 2000 after 37 years as a senior engineering specialist in the Bemidji construction inspection unit. Duties included supervising bridge maintenance operations and the bridge safety inspection program, and developing the annual district bridge maintenance program.

Kenneth Johnson started his civil engineering career working for the Aitkin County Highway Department, where his duties included inspection and maintenance of bridges. In 1977 Ken started with Wheeler Lumber, LLC, where he developed the use of treated timber for highway bridges. Since retiring in 2006, Ken has worked as a consultant.

Fee

The registration fee includes lunch, coffee breaks, and program materials.
