Wright County, Iowa, needed a safer way for workers to clean out the auger area of plow trucks. Staff created an auger safety valve that disables the hydraulic auger motor on the sander before the bottom tailgate of the truck can be opened. The device was made for about $105 in materials using shop tools. It was assembled within one to two hours by one person. The project received an honorable mention in the Pioneer category of the 2023 Build a Better Mousetrap national program.
